I've spent my entire career as a information technology systems analyst, spending an inordinate amount of time analyzing and documenting. My left brain's attention to detail was hyper-developed and unruly, with my creative side completely un-nurtured. With photography moving into the digital realm, the opportunity was there to embark on a mission to "figure it out." My problem; I always have to "master" it.
Four years ago I bought my first digital SLR and set out on a mission to learn about f-stops, depth of field, shutter speeds, and the science of light. I studied with masters, sought mentors, attended workshops, and invested a ton of money in education. I immersed myself into the world of a professional photographer. I studied not only the craft, but the business. I even toyed with the idea of making a living at it. I set up the business, attracted clients, had some amazing photo shoots, and then I came to my senses.
You see, I love being outdoors and behind the lens. I love capturing the beauty of everything around us. I love making people smile with beautiful portraits of their family. What I found I didn't love so much was running a customer service business, especially in an industry where the service has been de-valued and is saturated with service providers. It took the joy out of having the camera in my hand and consumed more time and emotional energy than I had to give.
So, I've decided to kick back and not pursue the business, instead letting it pursue me. If you landed here because someone referred you; awesome. You know what you can expect in terms of service and pricing. If you landed here because you're "shopping" for a photographer, you probably ought to contine browsing. If you're someone who appreciates the artistic value of the work and the dedication and effort that go into making it, let's rock on! Click the Contact link and send me a note.
Look around and enjoy. I hope something brings a smile to your face.
